‘I’ll be ready’ – Heung-min Son asked which position he wants to play next season

Son Heung-min has insisted that he does not mind playing either as a number nine or on the left, insisting that he is ready to do whatever the team needs.

Son spent much of the season leading the line for Tottenham owing to Richarlison’s injury troubles.

The Spurs captain did quite well in the centre-forward role in several games and finished the campaign with 27 goal contributions (17 goals and 10 assists) in 35 league matches.

However, the 31-year-old also struggled to operate with his back to goal in some games and was sometimes a passenger, particularly when Tottenham came up against a low block.

It remains to be seen which position Son will play next season, with reports over recent days suggesting that Tottenham are in the market for a centre-forward this summer while there are also question marks over Richarlison’s future at the club (ESPN).

Heung-min Son will play anywhere for Tottenham

However, Son insisted that he does not really have a preference for one of the two positions.

When asked where he would prefer to play next season, the Spurs captain told Football.London: “I don’t mind. (Laughs) It’s the gaffer’s decision so I’ll be ready for any position. So if he puts me as keeper I will be playing keeper.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Son will primarily be used on the left by Postecoglou next season. While the South Korean is very good at playing on the shoulder of the defence and is one of the best finishers around, he perhaps does not have the physical presence to occupy the centre-backs when operating as a number nine.
