Tapsoba was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer (Guardian) but the North London club decided to secure Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg instead, with the Dutchman turning out to be a revelation in N17.

It was revealed by the print edition of to the print edition of SportBILD (via Sport Witness) back in February that Spurs could reignite their interest in the 25-year-old this summer.

The report claimed that the Lilywhites could be joined in the race for the player by Chelsea, who are also intent on strengthening at the back.

However, it was made clear that neither London club will find it easy to sign the centre-back, with the Bundesliga champions expected to demand top dollar for the Burkina Faso international.

Edmond Tapsoba too expensive for Tottenham

Romano believes that given the central defenders that Ange Postecoglou now has at his disposal, Tottenham might not want to pay over the odds for the Leverkusen star.

When asked about Spurs’ interest in Tapsoba, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “For centre-back at the moment, I think they are very happy with Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven – so they could bring in a new centre-back, but it has to be a good opportunity.

“Also, they spent important money on Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window. Edmond Tapsoba is super expensive. I think it is going to be difficult for Tottenham to return for last summer’s target, because it’s really, super expensive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Spurs are not going to go for an expensive option like Tapsoba, Jarrad Branthwaite or March Guehi this summer as Postecoglou is on the lookout for backups rather than a starter.

With Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly seemingly not keen on a switch to Tottenham, it would be interesting to see who Spurs turn to, with the likelihood being that they will look at the Serie A market again this summer.
