Green Buffaloes book COSAFA Women’s Champions League ticket

Green Buffaloes have won a record fourth-straight FAZ Women’s Super League title after beating ZISD Women 2-0 in the final game of the 2023/24 season.

Maweta Chilenga’s strike in the first minute of the game and an own goal by Penelope Lubelenga in the second half stretched Buffaloes total points to 90, three better than ZESCO Ndola Girls who dispatched ZANACO Ladies 2-0 to finish the season with 87 points.

The Zambia Army side has been ruthless since the start of the Women’s Super League four years ago and this season, Carol Kanyemba’s side were unbeaten in 34 matches, recording 28 wins and six draws where they scored 102 goals and allowed 11.

ZESCO’s only blemish was losing to Buffaloes in a season where the Ndola based giants registered 27 wins and six draws. The team scored 103 goals and allowed 19 goals. Completing the top four was INDENI and Green Eagles FC.

By winning the Women’s Super League title, Buffaloes will represent Zambia at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League that serves as a qualifier for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

In the relegation waters, National Assembly, Queens Sports Academy, Chipata Girls and Kabwe Celtic Queens will play in the National Division One after finishing the 34-week season in the bottom four.
