NEWCASTLE and Tottenham will battle it out Down Under in a pre-season friendly just three days after the Premier League’s dramatic ending.

Spurs were pipped to the final Champions League spot by Aston Villa despite thrashing relegated Sheffield United 3-0 on the last day.

While Newcastle’s 4-2 away win at Brentford earned them a place in the Europa Conference League ahead of English giants Manchester United.

And after what has been an action-packed season, the players would have been looking forward to a well-earned rest before the Euros.

But the Prem rivals have been pencilled in to play each other 72 hours into pre-season and even Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou believes that this game is ‘not ideal’ so early on.

England boss Gareth Southgate who will name his provisional squad today also described the friendly as ‘not good news’.

When is Newcastle vs Tottenham?

Why is this game happening?

The reason for this match taking place is due to the fixture being part of Global Football Week Melbourne.

This is one of three matches which has been scheduled for the special week.

Spurs face Newcastle for Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming while the Toon play a second game against an A-League All Stars team on Friday, May 24.

Arsenal women have also travelled to Melbourne to take on A-League Women’s All-Stars team.
