Man United weighing up Evanilson swoop

0 6

Manchester United are reportedly setting their sights on Brazilian striker Evanilson from FC Porto, according to Jornal de Noticias.

The Red Devils’ 2023/24 campaign ended disappointingly in eighth place in the Premier League, with European football slipping out of their grasp unless they clinch the FA Cup.

A glaring issue this season has been United’s goal-scoring woes, culminating in a dismal -1 goal difference. While Rasmus Hojlund shows promise, the squad lacks a consistent goal-scorer. Anthony Martial’s departure and Marcus Rashford’s lackluster form underscore the urgent need for attacking reinforcements.

Evanilson, a 24-year-old forward with 24 goals and six assists in 41 appearances for Porto this season, emerges as a viable solution. His impressive stats, despite trailing Viktor Gyokeres for the Liga Portugal Golden Boot. However, his acquisition will come at a steep price. With a contract running until 2027 and a release clause set at £85.6 million, United will need to make a substantial financial commitment.

Known for his dribbling, passing, and finishing prowess, Evanilson could be the number nine United desperately need. His ability to hold up the ball would complement Hojlund, alleviating the goal-scoring burden on the young Dane. Whether United can negotiate a deal below the release clause or meet Porto’s demands remains to be seen.

As the transfer window approaches, securing Evanilson’s signature would be a strategic move for Manchester United. However, they are also exploring other options to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
