Report: How much prize money Spurs are guaranteed this season

We now know Tottenham Hotspur will finish either sixth or fifth in the Premier League this season, and that will all be settled on the final day against Sheffield United. And, we also know how much prize money the club will now receive based on their position in the league table.

This long and winding season is coming to a close, and Tottenham can look forward to European football once more next year.

It would appear the Lilywhites will be competing in the Europa League in the 2024/25 campaign. That could change if results don’t go their way and Chelsea leapfrog them into the top five, and then Manchester United win the FA Cup, leaving Spurs with Conference League participation instead.

Either way, a top-six finish this year is certainly progress for Spurs, who languished in eighth place last season. Indeed, for Ange Postecoglou to come in and implement a radically different style of play, and to lose Harry Kane, and still improve on last season has to be considered a success.

Premier League prize money explained

In terms of financial success, it has now been revealed how much Spurs can expect to receive based on their Premier League placing this year. As per Football.London, prize money increases by £3.1m for every place you climb up the table (which is up from £2.2m for last season).

So, the bottom club makes £3.1m, and the title winners will receive £62.3m. Meanwhile, Aston Villa will claim £52.9m for finishing fourth.

Spurs missed out on that prize — and the Champions League football that comes with it — but they can still expect to receive either £49.8m for finishing fifth or £46.7m for sixth place.

A point against Sheffield United on Sunday will land the higher sum, and guarantee Europa League qualification for next term.

Spurs Web Opinion

Prize money is not the be-all and end-all, and the key is that we secure that final-day win and confirm fifth place. Not only does that secure Europa League for next year, but it would also feel pretty frustrating if Chelsea were to overtake us after us being above them all season.
