Report: Hibs 2 Rangers 3
In spite of a narrow defeat against Rangers, history would be made at Meadowbank.
Club legend Joelle Murray made her final bow at Meadowbank, while 16-year-old midfielder Astrud Nevin came on to make her senior debut.
Rangers forward Kirsty Howat grabbed a hat-trick to ensure victory for the visitors, despite Michaela McAlonie and Jorian Baucom nearly pulling the scores back level with late goals.
Grant Scott made one change to the side that bested Hearts in the Edinburgh Derby last week, with Ellis Notley replacing Shannon McGregor in midfield.
The Hibees warmed up pre-match in if u care share shirts – a cause supported deeply by our goalkeeper, Nina Wilson.
In the early stages, Katie Fraine would pull off a number of spectacular stops to deny Rangers an early lead. First, reaching high to deny Olivia McLoughlin an effort bound for the top corner before saving low to deny Rio Hardy.
Despite these goalkeeping heroics, Rangers opened the scoring. Taking a deflection off defender Poppy Lawson, Howat slotted the ball past Fraine after 31 minutes.
Fraine would keep up the good work however, saving once again to deny Mia Macauley shortly before half-time.
Rangers would come close again once play resumed, with Sarah Ewans hitting the post after striking from outside the box.
Fresh from an excellent performance in the Edinburgh Derby, Kirsty Morrison did her best to level terms but her scuffed shot flew wayward of the Rangers goal.
With Hardy bearing down on goal and rounding Fraine, Siobhan Hunter denied the Rangers striker with a fantastic last-ditch clearance on the goal-line to keep the score at a minimum.
Howat would double Rangers' lead after 63 minutes. The striker grabbed her second by placing a neat shot into the bottom corner. The Rangers number nine would then grab her hat-trick not long after.
With the game looking lost, Michaela McAlonie would pull one back for Hibernian. A well worked free-kick would see Esson caught off her line and McAlonie placed the ball into the bottom corner in one swift motion.
As the fog descended on Meadowbank and the game pushed into the final 15 minutes, club captain Joelle Murray came on to make her final Meadowbank appearance.
Looking towards the future however, academy graduate Astrud Nevin also came on to make her professional debut.
Deep into the game, Katie Fraine would continue to pull off fantastic stops - denying Tessal Middag on the goal-line, before Arnot fired wide of the goal on the rebound.
Racing up the other end, Jorian Baucom would pull one goal back, jinking past goalkeeper Victoria Esson and slotting into an empty net deep into stoppage time.
That would prove to be the final action however, as Hibs lose out in their final home match of the season despite a commendable fightback.
