Report: Spurs are one of four PL clubs interested in former Man Utd midfielder

Angel Gomes may have come through the ranks at Manchester United, but he is now catching the eye over in France with Lille. Tottenham Hotspur are one of four Premier League clubs keen on the midfielder, and there is also interest from Germany and Italy.

Having developed through the youth system at United, Gomes went on to make ten appearances for the Red Devils, but left the club on a free transfer in 2020 due to a desire to play more first-team football.

That looks to have been a good decision now, as his move to Lille has seen him turn into one of the most creative and most highly-rated players in Ligue 1.

This season, Gomes has two goals and ten assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for the French outfit (Transfermarkt). Naturally, that kind of output has now seen him pop up on the radar of numerous Premier League clubs, as well as top clubs in Germany and Italy.

Will Angel Gomes return to England?

According to TBR Football, Tottenham are among those interested in the 23-year-old, but they face intense competition from divisional rivals.

The report claims Lille are trying to tie Gomes down to a new “long-term” contract as his current deal expires next year.

However, Gomes’ head may be turned as there are now plenty of big teams “paying close attention” to his performances and his situation at Lille.

Tottenham, Aston Villa, and West Ham have all been “watching him closely” recently and are believed to be “impressed” by what they’ve seen. Manchester United are also considering trying to bring Gomes back to the club.

Meanwhile, the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have made it known they are keen, too.

Gomes is a good player who has registered impressive numbers this season, and he’s also homegrown which obviously a lot of clubs will be considering this summer, Spurs included.
