Everton goalkeeper signs new deal after successful loan spell

Everton have secured the future of their talented young goalkeeper, Harry Tyrer, with a new contract extension keeping him at the club until 2026.

The 22-year-old has been a Blue since his youth days, joining the academy at the tender age of seven. He impressed at academy level before embarking on his maiden loan spell at Chester.

The youngster has been on loan at Chesterfield in the National League, playing a pivotal role in their title win and promotion back to the EFL by keeping an impressive 11 clean sheets in his 41 appearances.

“It’s a boyhood dream of mine to be at this club, and it’s probably every Evertonians’ dream to be at this club,” Tyrer told EvertonTV after signing the new deal.

“I’ve worked hard this season, and that’s come with a lot of rewards. Last season, it was Chester. This season, it was Chesterfield.

“I’ve grown up a lot in the lower leagues, and I’ve definitely come on leaps and bounds as a goalkeeper.”

Tyrer also opened up about the positive impact of training alongside Jordan Pickford at Finch Farm, crediting the England international for aiding his development thus far.

”His [Pickford] quality shows through in training and shows in games,” Tyrer said. “He’s world-class. He’s probably one of the best in the world right now.

“You just want to learn from him and learn what you can from him.”

Joao Virginia is currently the backup to Pickford and has performed reasonably well when called upon in cup competitions this season.

However, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, Everton have time to assess his long-term role at the club, and Tyrer could take up that role after impressing at Chesterfield.

He has racked up an impressive 94 saves this season, conceding an average of 1.4 goals per game, which translates to a commendable 63% save percentage.

Tyrer’s commanding presence in the box, combined with his agility and shot-stopping prowess, suggests he has a very promising future.

Whether he remains with Everton this summer or embarks on another loan spell will depend on the club’s plans and Virginia’s continued development.
