Report: Everton avoid paying extra £10m to Tottenham for Dele Alli

Football.London have revealed that Everton will no longer have to pay £10m to Tottenham for Dele Alli as the midfielder now cannot make enough appearances to trigger a clause negotiated with Tottenham Hotspur.

Dele moved to Goodison Park on a free transfer in January of 2022 but as part of the deal, it was agreed that Everton would have to pay Spurs £10m if the attacking midfielder made 20 appearances for the club before the end of his two-and-a-half-year contract.

The deal is now about to run out this June and with Dele still recovering from his injury, he will no longer be able to reach the 20-game mark this season.

Tottenham will not receive £10m for Dele Alli

Following Everton’s loss at Stamford Bridge yesterday, the Toffees only have six matches left this season and with the 27-year-old currently on 13 appearances, he will only reach 19 even if he plays all the games until the end of the season.

However, it had been reported by The Athletic back in February that Tottenham would receive some payment from the Toffees if Dele signs a new contract at the Merseyside club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Cynics and conspiracy theorists will feel that Everton deliberately prevented Dele from playing the stipulated among of games, particularly given their perilous financial condition. However, it is clear that the midfielder is injured and he looks unlikely to kick a ball this season.
