Report: Spurs are ‘in a hurry’ to wrap up deal for 21-year-old defender

According to Il Pallano Gonfiato, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on securing Riccardo Calafiori and are ‘in a hurry’ to complete a deal for the Bologna star in order to avoid competition.

Calafiori has had a tremendous debut season in Serie A since his move from Basel last summer, with the 21-year-old being one of the best young players on show in the competition this campaign.

Although he is a central defender, he has also impressed at left-back on several occasions this season, and it has been widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham are set to battle the likes of Napoli and Juventus for the player this summer (Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness).

Spurs want to conclude Calafiori deal swiftly

Il Pallano Gonfiato now say that Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in Calafiori and are keen to get a deal over the line for the centre-back.

It is asserted that the North London club are ‘in a hurry to close’ a deal for the 21-year-old, as they ‘want to have priority’ in any transfer negotiations and avoid any ‘crazy auctions’ for the player.

The report alleges that the Lilywhites are now studying the idea of making an offer worth €25m (£21.3m) plus bonuses to steal a march on others in the race for Calafiori.

However, the publication adds that Bologna will hope there is a busy auction for the defender so that they can make around €30m (£25.6m) from his sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why Calafiori would be an appealing option to Tottenham, given his ability to cover for both the left centre-back role and the left-back role. The Italian undeniably has a huge ceiling and Postecoglou will believe that he can mould the 21-year-old into a top player.
