Man Utd could use Mason Greenwood as makeweight to land Gleison Bremer

Manchester United are determined to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer this summer and are planning to propose a potential player plus cash deal to entice the Serie A giants.

Italian news outlet Gazzetta claims the Red Devils are prepared to use outcast Mason Greenwood as a makeweight in their bid to secure the services of the Brazilian centre-back.

Greenwood has shrugged off a lengthy spell away from football, reinventing himself in the Spanish top flight and emerging as a key player in the Getafe squad.

The controversial United academy graduate has been pivotal to Getafe’s push into the top half of the La Liga table this season, repaying the faith of the Spanish outfit with eight six goals and five assists in 24 league games.

The 22-year-old averages a key pass per match and has created five big chances for his teammates this season.

However, despite his re-emergence in Spain, Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford remains dead in the water, with his spell at United shrouded in controversy.

The club are eager to offload him this summer, and Greenwood is attracting plenty of interest from clubs in Spain, including Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, who are monitoring his development.

However, United could use him to lower the asking price for Juventus defender Bremer, who has emerged as a key defensive target for the Red Devils.

United are planning a defensive overhaul this summer, especially with Raphael Varane expected to leave the club when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Italian news outlets believe United have identified Bremer as Varane’s replacement, but his €60 million release clause could pose a stumbling block to a potential deal.

It remains to be seen if Juventus are open to the prospect of a player plus cash deal, but the Old Lady are reluctant to let Bremer leave the club unless his release clause is activated.

Newcastle United are also interested in the Brazilian but will struggle to match his release clause amid concerns they could breach Profit and Sustainability Rules.
