Preview – Derry City v Galway United

0 1

Derry City vs Galway United – Friday 29th March 2024 – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell

SSE Airtricity Premier Division

Match sponsored by Advanced Care Services

The Candystripes will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat at Dalymount Park before the International break when they entertain Galway United at the Brandywell on Friday night.

That 2-1 reverse was a first loss of the season for City, however Assistant Manager Paul Hegarty felt that the result was very harsh on the visitors.

“I actually felt we had played at least as well as we did in other games this season so it was disappointing to come away from Bohemians with nothing” he said.

“We gave away two really bad goals, which was very unlike us, and then we were just missing a bit of composure in the final third.

The Donegal man was obviously well aware of Derry’s impressive home record of late, but insisted that Galway would prove a tough nut to crack.

“I have no doubt they’ll come here full of confidence. They have two top men on the touchline and of course they’ll have their homework done.

“We’ve spent a lot of time watching their games over the past week and to be fair to them, they’ve been worth more points than they’ve got as well.

“They’re a very good side and will cause teams plenty of problems in this league.

“Do I expect us to win the game- yes I do. It’s a home game for us and I’m sure they’ll feel the same way when they play us down there.

“I’m on record as saying I believe we have the best squad in the league at this club.

“It’s no secret we’ve had a few injury concerns in recent weeks and we’ll likely be without one or two again this weekend, but by the same token we were able to get minutes into a couple of the boys at Dalymount too.

“We’ve made good use of the short break and now we’re looking forward to getting back playing again.”

It is of course a busy return for all clubs as there’s a quick turnaround of fixtures this week; City heading to Tolka Park on Monday to take on in-form Shelbourne next.

Hegarty though insists the focus has exclusively been on Galway and nothing else this week as the hosts look to get back to winning ways.

The game kicks off at 7.45 pm and will be streamed live on LOITV.
