Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got on the scoresheet for Denmark on Tuesday as they overcame Faroe Islands 2-0 in a friendly on Tuesday.

Hojbjerg has struggled to get starts for much of the season at Tottenham, having fallen behind the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in Ange Postecoglou’s pecking order.

However, the 28-year-old did get two games under his belt for his country during the international break as Denmark were held to a 0-0 draw by Switzerland over the weekend before they turned over the Faroe Islands yesterday.

The Tottenham man came in for some criticism for his performance against the Swiss, with Sport.TV2 giving him a rating of just 3/10 and suggesting that he was sloppy.

However, in a show of faith, manager Kasper Hjulmand not only kept Hojbjerg in the starting eleven on Tuesday by also handed him the captain’s armband.

The experienced midfielder delivered, scoring his side’s opening goal in the eighth minute before Reims winger Mohamed Daramy netted the home side’s second at the start of the second period.

Spurs Web Opinion

Denmark do not look anywhere near as strong as they did heading into the last Euros, where they made it all the way to the semifinals. They need Hojbjerg to deliver in Germany this summer if they are to get out of their group.
