Report: Spurs are looking at a loan move for 24-year-old in January

Tottenham’s plans for the January transfer window are becoming clearer. While a centre-back is thought to be the top priority, it’s expected the club will also look to acquire another winger, and former Celtic man, Jota, is an option.

By the end of the summer, the Tottenham squad appeared to be fairly well-equipped for the season ahead. Judging by the first ten matches – during which time Ange Postecoglou‘s side were unbeaten and sitting at the top of the table – it all seemed to be going to plan.

Three defeats later, and Spurs are now suffering through an injury crisis that has seriously depleted the squad. In attacking areas, Postecoglou is now without the likes of James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, and Manor Solomon until next year.

Richarlison is also out of action, but may be back in time for Christmas. Still, the Lilywhites are now expected to add another attacker to their roster in the upcoming transfer window.

Spurs eyeing Jota for January

That is according to a new report from the Standard, who claim Spurs’ secondary ambition for January is to add depth in the forward areas, with Al-Ittihad winger Jota among the options being explored.

Jota is currently “ineligible” to play in Saudi Arabia having fallen out of favour there, despite only joining Al-Ittihad in the summer.

The 24-year-old winger is now regarded as a “possibility” for Spurs in the winter window, with the player “expected” to move on imminently.

The Portuguese attacker previously “starred” for Postecoglou at Celtic, and a reunion could be on the cards.

I am far more open to the idea of us signing Jota on loan as opposed to any permanent deal. He did well at Celtic, but I’m always wary of players coming over from Scotland and how they’ll adapt to the Premier League.
