Report: Spurs refuse to comment on Ange Postecoglou; aiming to avoid repeat of saga

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be treading carefully with their interest in Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou given the recent Arne Slot saga, according to BBC Sport.

The north Londoners are set to hold talks with the Australian over their current head coach vacancy after Postecoglou secured a historic eighth domestic treble for Celtic on Saturday following their 3-1 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Hampden Park.

The report claims that Tottenham are refusing to comment on the reports linking them with the 57-year-old as a potential successor for Antonio Conte who departed the club in late March.

Tottenham’s search for a replacement took a dramatic u-turn when Slot, who was said to be the frontrunner for the role decided to commit his future to the club and sign a new contract with the Eredivisie giants (The Sun).

They are also mindful of avoiding the situation in the wake of Jose Mourinho‘s exit where they took a 72-days to only end up with Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, the current recruitment process is in day 71.

Postecoglou was also not revealing too much about his future plans following Saturday’s victory, when he told the BBC: “I’m going to be a little bit selfish,” he said.

“People around me have all worked hard to enjoy this moment, so that’s what I’m going to do. I will enjoy it for as long as I can before people drag me away to talk about other things.”

When pushed further, he added: “Because I think I deserve to enjoy this moment just like everyone else. I worked really hard for this moment.

“I owe it to my friends and to my family. I get why you have to ask the question, but from my perspective, I deserve to enjoy this moment.

“There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by by being side tracked.”

If the club are said to be keen to avoid the situation of the delay in appointing a successor similar to the Nuno saga, they have the best part of twenty four hours to confirm Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival.

With respect to the Celtic boss, he was not first choice or arguably even their second or third, however, Daniel Levy has decided to pass up any prospect of Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Naglesmann to entrust a head coach who has not coached in an elite league.
