Alasdair Gold sheds light into Paratici’s planned transfer policy in January

0 5

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to add more young talent to their development squad during January and the subsequent transfer windows.

Spurs have been extremely active over the last few transfer windows since Fabio Paratici took over as the club’s managing director of football over 18 months ago.

The North London club have made several astute acquisitions in that time, including the likes of Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma and a few others, whose values have grown considerably since they arrived at the club.

Tottenham are expected to back Antonio Conte once again in January (Evening Standard) but Gold has now explained that it is not just the first team that the Spurs hierarchy are focused on improving.

The journalist revealed that we are likely to see the Lilywhites make further acquisitions to their academy set-up, similar to the Will Lankshear one in the summer.

He said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I know there’s a drive to restock the development squad with some young talent in the next few windows, we may see that in January. They brought in Will Lankshear from Sheffield United, a talented young striker.”

It is clear that the club have prioritised improving their academy set-up since Paratici arrived and the appointment of the likes of Andy Scoulding and Gretar Steinsson in the summer, was partly done with the aim of improving the identification of young talent.

One can argue that the best way for Tottenham to have sustained success over the long term and continue to compete with teams like Man City and Chelsea, is to sign top young talent, facilitate their development and provide them with a pathway into the first-team.
