Tottenham Hotspur target Kim Min-jae has admitted that it is a big boost to the South Korea squad to have Son Heung-min back in training ahead of their World Cup opener against Uruguay.
There were concerns over whether Son will be fit for the World Cup when he fractured his eye socket in Tottenham’s Champions League clash against Marseille at the start of the month.
However, the forward has since successfully had surgery (Telegraph) and he has been training with his international teammates with a protective face mask on.
South Korea get their World Cup campaign underway with a clash against Uruguay this afternoon and their manager Paulo Bento has confirmed that the Tottenham man will be involved (BBC Sport).
The Taegeuk Warriors will be hoping to repeat the heroics of fellow Asian side Japan, who upset one of the big dogs in Germany in their own World Cup Opener.
Kim remarked that having Son available is a major boost to his teammates, given the 29-year-old’s goalscoring prowess.
The Napoli centre-back, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar (CMW.it), told The Korea Herald: “It’s very reassuring that (Son) Heung-min has joined the team, since he can score against any team.”

Apart from Son’s world-class goalscoring ability, just his presence will be a psychological boost to the South Korean players while seeing his name on the team sheet will worry the Uruguayan defenders.
So, even if the Tottenham forward is perhaps not 100 per cent, owing to potential fears over his injury, Bento will be keen to have him lead the line.
