Report: Antonio Conte seeks advice of Bentancur over midfield target

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to the print edition of Portuguese newspaper Record (23/09/22).

Ugarte was named in Rúben Amorim’s starting eleven for their Champions League match against the north Londoners earlier this month which saw Sporting score two late goals to secure their second successive win in Group D.

The report claims that Conte has sought the advice of Rodrigo Bentancur to find out more about his Uruguayan team-mate.

Tottenham are said to have made contact recently with Sporting to enquire about his availability, while Leicester City have also been in communication.

Ugarte is also rumoured to be attracting interest from other clubs on the continent including Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

Antonio Conte brought in Yves Bissouma to compete with Pierre-Emile Hojbjer, Oliver Skipp and Bentacur for a place in his midfield while allowing the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks to head out on loan.

Tottenham need to focus on a creative midfield outlet as one of their additions in the January transfer window, and Ugarte is not the solution.

Conte needs a player who can unlock a defence with a single pass or also pitch in with at least ten goals a season, something which Ugarte is not capable of.
