Title: Pittsburgh Steelers vice president of football and business administration

Experience

Khan has been with the Steelers for more than two decades, working his way up from coordinator to director to VP. He has been described as their chief negotiator and salary-cap guru. During his time with the team, the Steelers have won two Super Bowls and played in a third.

After working for the football team while at Tulane, Khan started his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, first as a player personnel/scouting assistant and then in a coaching/football operations position before joining the Steelers in 2000, according to a 2013 ESPN profile.

You should know

NFL Network reported Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is expected to retire after the 2022 draft and noted Khan could be an in-house candidate to replace him. But the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Colbert hasn’t told anyone in the organization he is going to step down.

Khan reportedly has interviewed with various teams over the years, including the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans last year. ESPN reported Khan was a search firm’s choice for the Texans, but owner Cal McNair overruled it and hired Nick Caserio.

Chicago connection

Khan began his career with the Saints while Bears great Mike Ditka was the coach.

What’s been said

Agent Joel Segal told ESPN in 2013: “In dealing with Omar, you always know what you are getting. He’s going to be prepared, he’s going to be forward, he’s going to be tough. He’s always going to be willing to listen to you even if he doesn’t agree with you. You better be prepared because he’s on top of his business.”
