Report: Liverpool tried to sign Spurs star last summer

0 6

According to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool tried to sign Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid last summer before he joined Spurs.

Reguilon has adapted very well to life in the Premier League and has established himself as a mainstay in Tottenham’s starting eleven.

Out of the seven singings that Spurs made last summer, the left-back has arguably had the most impact apart from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Spurs fans will hoping that the 24-year-old builds on the impressive start he has had to his time at the club and that Real Madrid do not activate the buy-back clause in the deal.

However, if The Atheltic are to be believed, Reguilon could have ended up at Anfield had things gone a little different.

The report claims that the Reds were looking for a new left-back to cover for Andy Robertson last summer and had narrowed down their options to Reguilon and Kostas Tsimikas.

Jurgen Klopp’s men eventually ended up signing Tsmikas but the Greek international is yet to make an impact, having made just a solitary league appearance so far.

One of the reasons we were able to get Reguilon ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United (who were also rumoured to be interested in the left-back) could be because we agreed to have a buy-back clause inserted into the deal. Let us hope that does not come back to bite us in the future, with Madrid changing their minds and deciding to take the Spaniard back.
