BVB’s desire to keep Haaland could help Man Utd sign Jadon Sancho

00

Determined not to lose Erling Braut Haaland in the summer, Borussia Dortmund could hand Manchester United’s hopes of signing Jadon Sancho a massive boost.

As reported by The Athletic, Dortmund could sacrifice Sancho to retain Haaland in the upcoming transfer window, with United keeping a watchful eye on developments at the Signal Iduna Park.

The Norwegian is arguably the most sought-after player in European football, with almost every top club looking to capture his signature.

Like almost all of their Premier League rivals, the Red Devils are interested in Haaland, but the 20-year-old’s price tag continues to pose a problem.

The Bundesliga giants will stick to their £127 million valuation even if they fail to land Champions League football.

Given the financial havoc triggered by the coronavirus crisis, only a handful of clubs will be able to negotiate Haaland’s transfer in the summer.

In addition to a hefty price tag, the Norwegian will also warrant substantial wages, while it is yet to be seen how much his agent Mino Raiola will require for his commission.

Based on that, the former RB Salzburg striker will be hard to acquire, but his partner in crime could be a real option for United this time around.

The Red Devils were interested in bringing Sancho back to England last summer but were priced out of the move after being quoted figures over £100m.

The 21-year-old’s extravagant price tag came on the back of a stunning 2019/20 season that saw him rack up 20 goals and 20 assists in all competitions.

However, the former Manchester City youngster has endured a dip in form this campaign, particularly in light of a turbulent summer that saw his desire to move to Old Trafford hampered by Dortmund’s demands.

Not as influential as last season, Sancho may be allowed to leave Germany if it enables Dortmund to retain Haaland.

The winger won’t come cheaply, as Dortmund have showcased their skill at selling their stars at the peak of their market value on numerous occasions in the past.

The German giants are known for spotting value buys in the market and selling them for substantial profits.

Sancho could be their most profitable piece of business to date, having paid just £8m to sign him in 2017.
