Clubs chase young Crawley striker

0 5

A host of Championship and League One clubs are chasing young Crawley striker Max Watters, who has been in fantastic form for the fourth division outfit since joining them on a free transfer in October. Watters has already scored 16 goals across all competitions for Crawley, and is averaging nearly a goal a game for the League Two side.

The likes of Watford and Swansea are said to be interested in the 21-year-old, with the latter even having a bid rejected for him by Crawley. Premier League outfits like West Brom and Brighton are also keeping tabs on the youngster, who was described recently by Newport boss Michael Flynn as the “best striker in League Two” currently.

Watters started his career with Thurrock and also featured for fellow non-league outfits Barking and Ashford United before joining Doncaster Rovers in 2018. At Doncaster, he was sent out on loan four times- to Grantham Town, Gainborough Trinity, Mickleover Sports and Maidstone United respectively, before being released by the club at the end of the 19/20 campaign.

Watters originally signed a one-year deal with Crawley in October, with the option of a year’s extension. The club are currently 10th in League Two at the time of writing, and Watters’ goal scoring exploits have put him only behind Paul Mullin in the league’s list of highest scorers this season.
