Glad to make some converts to the Hip! They are icons in Canada but never seemed to get any traction internationally (outside some of the northern 48- which always baffled when the likes of Celine Dion and Nickelback seem to effortlessly tarnish our international musical repute). Saw them live many times over the years and never left disappointed. The lead singer/songwriter, Gord Downie, died three years ago today (GMT) from a brain tumor. Quite a loss as they were still churning out great music up until the tumor began affecting his ability to write and perform. Their music is so pervasive here it felt like losing an old friend. RIP Gord.
