Tampa Bay Rowdies 6-Bethlehem Steel 1

After a tough stretch of matches the Tampa Bay Rowdies needed a game to help bolster their playoff ambitions. On Saturday they found it with their attack coming alive to the tune of a 6-1 rout of the Bethlehem Steel.

The Rowdies deluge was started with a bit of luck, an own goal from the Steel’s Ben Ofeimu in the 20th minute. Sebastian Guenzatti (24′), Kwadwo Poku (40′), Andrew Tinari (45+2′), Lucky Mkosana (71′), and Afrim Taku (90’+2′) following suit. Their six goals was the highest for the club this season. Guenzatti’s goal was his 16th of the season which is third most in the Championship. As for Taku the goal was his first since re-joining the Rowdies and he added three assists on the evening.

The Steel’s lone goal came from Fari Pemi Moumbagna on a penalty in the 36th minute. Although the loss didn’t exactly end the Steel’s home streak (8-15-6, 29 points). They will continue their Southeast road swing this weekend when they take on Memphis 901 FC (8pm EST, espn+).

As for the Rowdies (16-8-6, 56 points) the win puts them right back into the hunt for the top spot in the Championship Eastern Conference. They now trail the Indy Eleven (17-5-6, 56 points) and the New York Red Bulls II (17-5-8, 56 points) on wins for the top two spots in the East.
