How do you watch football ? I.E. analyse

The reason I say this is because I know for most of my life I just watched where the ball was more often than not. But you could focus on a particular position not just where the ball is. Also when you go to a live game it seems like a whole different game compared to watching it on the tv, even down to simple things like technique and speed of the game.
