Italy claim first diving gold of LEN Euro Juniors
Italian quartet claim maiden gold ahead of Great Britain and Germany
Italy secured the first gold medal of the 2022 LEN European Junior Diving Championships in Bucharest, Romania, with victory in the Jump event.
The competition required up to four athletes per-nation to complete a total of five rounds of dives which consist of a mixture of individual and synchronised routines.
Matteo Santoro, who claimed mixed 3m springboard silver at the World Championships last month, was joined in Bucharest by team-mates Franceso Casalini, Valerio Mosca, Elisa Pizzini.
The Italians combined to achieve a total of 300.85 points and finish ahead of Great Britain (Maya Hutty, Oscar Kane, Leon Baker and Oscar Willcox) who scored 292.90 to take silver.
Germany’s total of 281.30 helping them finish well clear of host Romania and claim the final podium place.
On Tuesday 14-15 year old (B Group) girls will contest the individual 3m springboard event, with boys of the same age taking on the individual 1m springboard competition.
The second day of competition in Romania will also see athletes of both genders contest their respective synchronised 10m platform events.
