First Dates Fred’s daughter Andrea in tears as Brit speaks to family on video after missing out on Olympics diving medal

FIRST DATES maitre d’ Fred’s daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix was in tears on a video call to her family minutes after missing out on a medal.

But the 16-year-old Spendolini-Sirieix proved she can be a star of the future by reaching the 10m platform final.

But along with Team GB team-mate Lois Toulson, she was never really in the medals frame as China’s 14-year-old sensation Hongchan Quan and Yuxi Chen took gold and silver.

Quan, truly amazing, earned a full house of 10s, a perfect score, on her fourth and fifth dives to make her position unassailable. 

She finished up with a staggering 466.20, 41 points clear at the top.

Further down the field, Toulson splashed herself out of any realistic medal contention when she made a mess of her second dive.

She scored a miserable 37.80 with a reverse two and a half somersault with tuck, the easiest of her five efforts.

Toulson ended up ninth with 289.60 from her five dives.

Spendolini-Sirieix was eighth after two dives, although 32 points behind Melissa Wu of Australia in third.

More consistent plunging saw her move up to seventh with two to go and targeting a top-five finish – but ultimately stayed seventh.

And she saved her best until last, finishing with a back two and a half somersaults with twists in the pike position, worth 72.00 and waving at the poolside camera in delight.

But the teenager, who totalled 305.50, could not hold back the tears as she spoke to her family – including legendary French dad Fred – on the poolside video wall at the end of the competition.

It means other than Tom Daley and Matty Lee’s success in the 10m men’s synchro, China have won the other six Olympic gold medals in the diving pool so far.
