[Swimming & Diving] Back in the pool, Bees take dual from Coe

Back in action for the first time in more than a month and a half, the Bees took duals at Coe College Saturday. The men won 146-77 and the women won 113-94.

The St. Ambrose men won six individual events and both relays. Ryan Warrick won two events. The Bees finished 1-5 in the 50-yard freestyle with Warrick leading the way with a time of 22.26 seconds. Reece Powell was second and Jonathan Whittle took third.

Warrick also led a Bee charge in the 100-yard freestyle. His time of 49.08 seconds edged teammates Kevin Krupitzer and Zac Robinson.

St. Ambrose also took the top three places in the 100-yard backstroke. Victor Del Rio Foces was the champion in a time of 55.32 seconds. David Hall was second and Quincy Walker took third. The Bees had the top four spots in the 200-yard butterfly. Carmelo Patti led the way, touching first in 54.79 seconds. Walker, Nathan Kuszynski and Grant Hamilton rounded out the top four.

Kuszynski was the champion in the 1650-yard freestyle with his effort of 17:17.49. Krupitzer took the 100-yard breaststroke title in 59.27 seconds. Patti finished second.

Del Rio Foces, Krupitzer, Patti and Powell teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:38.34. Powell, Sam Sutter, Mitch Berendes and Whittle took the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:32.45. Robinson, Bryce Hoffer, Alec Schanz and Hall were runners-up.

Three different women each won two individual events.

Andrea Adam continued her success, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. She had a score of 258.05 in the 1-meter event and a score of 257.75 in the 3-meter competition. Taylor Madison was second in both.

Bethany Anderson came up with first-place finishes in both the 500-yard (5:50.59) and 1650-yard (20:34.50) freestyle events. Grace Johanns was second in the 1650.

Catie Schimmelpfenning was the other dual champion. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.86 seconds before later taking the 100-yard freestyle in 56.58 seconds.

Kelly Baughman was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:04.38. 

The Bees also won the 200-yard freestyle relay as Mallory Krpan, Dani Crum, Adam and Schimmelpfenning touched the wall in 1:43.52.

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Midwest Championships in Iowa City, Iowa, Feb. 15-16.
