[Swimming & Diving] SAU's second season in the pool begins with dual vs. Augustana

The St. Ambrose men's swimming & diving team opened its second season in the pool by defeating Augustana 127-95 in a dual at Central High School Friday night. The Bee women fell to the Vikings 136-101.

An All-American in two events last season as a freshman, Nathan Kuszynski won three events in the season opener. He won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 54.52 seconds while also winning both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events in 1:47.41 and 4:59.38, respectively.

Sam Sutter took second to Kuszynski in the 500 free by touching the wall in 5:19.15. Sutter also helped the Bees to a 1-2 finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with his second-place time of 11:00.39 behind only teammate Justin Fales' effort of 10:47.62.

Ryan Warrick won the 100-yard freestyle event in 49.76 seconds and Kevin Krupitzer claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.86 seconds.

The SAU men also won the 200-yard medley relay as Victor Del Rio Foces, Krupitzer, Josh Fleming and Reece Powell teamed for a time of 1:39.45.

Defending National Champion Andrea Adam and national runner-up Taylor Madison finished first and second in both women's diving events. Adam totaled a score of 262.65 to outdistance Madison (230.45) in the 1-meter competition before edging her teammate 167.00-164.85 in the 3-meter event.

Three other Bees won individual events for the St. Ambrose women.

Catie Schimmelpfenning needed just 55.94 seconds to win the 100-yard freestyle, Bethany Anderson won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.55, and Shraddha Sudhir took the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:58.65.

Next Friday, SAU will visit Lincoln College for its first road dual of the early season.
