[Swimming & Diving] St. Ambrose men defeat Simpson
St. Ambrose broke a pair of pool records and picked up more NAIA national qualifiers at a dual at Simpson Saturday.
The SAU men earned their fourth dual victory of the season, defeating Simpson 121-64 while the women lost 120-94.
Nathan Kuszynski and Andrea Adam set Indianola, Iowa, YMCA Pool records - Kuszynski by winning the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.10 and Adam by collecting 258.60 points in winning the three-meter diving event. Kuszynski's time also qualified him for the NAIA Championships.
Josh Fleming won two individual events to lead the Bee men. He first won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.16 seconds before winning the 100-yard freestyle in 50.55. Teammate Jonathan Whittle took second in the 100 free in 51.31.
Fleming also anchored the 400-yard medley relay team that won its event in 3:44.99. Joining him were David Hall, Mitch Berendes and Kuszynski.
The Bees took first and second in the 500-yard freestyle with Cole Davis winning the event in a time of 5:17.36 and Diego Hernandez placing second in 5:38.65. Hernandez earlier won the 1000-yard freestyle, touching first in 11:34.19.
SAU also finished first and second in the 200-yard butterfly as Hall took second to Kuszynski with an effort of 2:26.39.
