They're sports because you have to run faster, jump higher or throw further than the other competitors. The outcome is not open to interpretation. In dressage or diving or pole dancing you have to dressage nicer, dive more aesthetically or open your legs wider whilst not falling on your face better according to some pernickety judges who were probably failures at whatever thing it is they're having the final say over. If that's sport then so is ballroom dancing, painting and The Miss World contest.
