2017 Soldier's Honour Handicap Road Race

Registration is now open this for this year's Soldier's Honour Handicap race around Pine Dam.

This race is for Hamilton Wheelers Members Only U17 and older plus any riders on temporary Cycling Australia Licences (1 day or 3 day licences) or bonafide visitors who reside more than 100km from the event.

History
Named in honour of those club members who made the supreme sacrifice in World Wars, the event is always held on the weekend that falls closest to Anzac Day and has been held each year for over 80 years. Here is a Brisbane Courier news report from the race held in 1933. A minute's silence precedes the start of the race.

What's a handicap?
For anyone not familiar with a handicap race, all riders who register are placed in smalls groups of similar ability. Each group starts at different times with the slowest riders starting first (this group is called GO), and the fastest riders last (this group is called SCRATCH). Ideally all the groups should catch each other at the end with all riders having a good chance of winning, by either staying away from chasing riders, or catching all the riders in front. Riders must work together rolling smooth turns if they want to go fast. The road to Dayboro is very undulating, and the challenge is to get over these hills with a good group for the fast section once you turn left onto Mt Sampson Rd at the Dayboro Pub. Riders turn left into Wynn Rd where the road climbs slowly up to the top before the fast downhill run to the finish.

Please provide honest information about your riding to assist the handicapper is placing you fairly and to give all riders an even chance. Enter your details below to register for the race.
