Nestled in the heart of Southport, the Southport Eco Centre is a beacon of environmental education and sustainability. Located at the start/finish of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT), this centre offers a unique blend of hands-on learning and outdoor adventure, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and visitors.

A Hub of Environmental Education
For over 20 years, the Southport Eco Centre has been delivering award-winning, inspirational sessions to schools, further education institutions, and community groups from the North West region and beyond. The resident teachers provide fun, hands-on education covering a wide range of topics both in a classroom environment and outdoor settings. All visits are designed to enhance the current curriculum and offer innovative learning opportunities for all.  A new star feature of the Eco Centre is a recently installed immersive sensory room.  Using specially designed games and lessons projected onto its walls, the room provides a full interactive way of focusing on a wide range of environmental topics.

The Trans Pennine Trail Connection
The Southport Eco Centre is strategically located at the start/finish of the Trans Pennine Trail, a coast-to-coast route that stretches from Southport in the west to Hornsea in the east. This Trail is a haven for walkers, cyclists, wheelers and horse riders, offering a mix of footpaths, disused railway lines, canal paths, and more. The Eco Centre serves as a perfect starting point for those embarking on this scenic journey, given its location just off the stunning Sefton coast.

Engaging the Community
The Eco Centre prides itself on creating innovative education resources that support its commitment to engaging across all communities on a wide range of eco-awareness topics. The centre has forged strong links with many local community groups, working on a number of joint projects.

Its latest major project is the ‘Clean Air Crew’, a digital resource that’s curriculum-friendly and looks at the impact of poor air quality on both our health and the environment.  The resource actively promotes the many benefits of walking and cycling throughout.

Join the Eco Savers League
Schools have an incredibly important role to play in our move towards a low carbon future. The Eco Savers League competition recognises Sefton schools’ work on a variety of environmental issues. This initiative not only promotes sustainability but also encourages students to take an active role in protecting our planet.
