Introducing the newest MCA Learning Facilitator – Jo Burdon!
Meet Jo Burdon - MCA Learning Facilitator
We’re excited to welcome Jo Burdon to the Manitoba Cycling Association as our new Learning Facilitator!
Jo is passionate about all things bikes — from riding and racing to wrenching and building strong, inclusive cycling communities. With a rich background in coaching, Jo is driven by a love for helping others build confidence, grow their skills, and find their place in the cycling world — whether it’s their first time on a bike or they’re gearing up for race season.
Jo is NCCP Certified as a Learning Facilitator, Tier 3 Community Coach and HopOn Instructor, bringing both technical expertise and a deep understanding of how to support coaches at every stage of their journey.
Their cycling journey began with grassroots community programs and has evolved into a dynamic career focused on coach education, skill development, and youth engagement. They’ve coached kids and adults alike, working in both urban and trail-based settings, and they thrive on making cycling approachable, fun, and empowering.
An avid rider and cyclocross enthusiast, Jo’s favourite discipline is all about grit, laughter, and embracing the mud. That same energy shows up in their coaching sessions — expect high fives, creative games, and an emphasis on skill progression and inclusion.
In their role as MCA Learning Facilitator, Jo will be:
- Delivering Cycling Practice Planning, Basic Cycling Skills, and HopOn Orientation sessions to support coaches in building strong foundations
- Leading practical workshops to demonstrate fun, effective, and adaptable skill-building games
- Providing mentorship to coaches — offering real-time feedback, guidance, and encouragement to help them grow
- Championing inclusive learning environments, where participants of all backgrounds and abilities feel supported and welcomed
Whether they’re on course, in the classroom, or beside you on the trails, Jo brings knowledge, clarity, and a strong commitment to growing the sport in meaningful ways.
A few fun facts about Jo:
- Cyclocross is their race discipline of choice — they thrive in the mud, love technical challenges, and bring good vibes to every course.
- They’re also a skilled bike mechanic and part of the team at The WRENCH, where they help make bike repair and education more accessible to the community
- They believe that great coaching starts with curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn — values they model in every session
We’re thrilled to have Jo on board and can’t wait to see the impact they’ll make across our cycling community!
