Cheers to Will: Celebrating Six Years of Service and Humor at NWTA

Written by Nancy Stone

Thank you, Will!

Will Heiberg began his NWTA Board service in 2009, spending two terms helping to navigate the organization in a rebranding from Portland United Mountain Pedalers (PUMP) to NWTA as we know it now. Two years ago, Will rejoined the board for his third and final term. During this time, he participated in establishing a Strategic Plan update for the organization, and his background in business was instrumental in the hiring process for our first Youth and Programming Director staff position. Will also served on the board of the non-profit Friends of Gateway Green, which helped bridge the two organizations to better serve the park and community as a whole.

All of these contributions, along with his sound and reasonable insights, have made Will an asset to NWTA. But if you ask any of the board members who served with Will, they will tell you that his sense of humor and playful approach to life has been his biggest contribution to the leadership team. Board service can sometimes be pretty serious and heavy as the group navigates hard decisions. It was during those times that Will would pop off with a funny comment or joke, immediately lightening the mood. He helps us remember that even when things get hard, there is always the opportunity to find humor and laughter in life.

It is with much gratitude that we thank Will for a combined 6 years of service to Northwest Trail Alliance. We know he will always be there to still make us all laugh!
