Insights from the 2024 Visitor Survey
We are thrilled to share the findings from the 2024 Visitor Survey for the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT). Your participation and feedback have been invaluable in helping us understand how the Trail is being used and how we can continue to improve it for everyone.
The Trans Pennine Trail is a cherished resource, offering a sustainable transport route for recreation and transport across the North of England. It provides a unique space where cyclists, walkers, horse riders, and wheelers can enjoy the beauty of our countryside. Your feedback ensures that the Trail remains a welcoming and accessible space for all.
Key Findings from the 2024 Survey
This year, we received 456 completed online surveys, providing us with a wealth of insights. Here are some of the highlights:
- Increased Usage: The Trail continues to attract new users while maintaining a strong base of regular visitors. Notably, 95% of respondents are regular users, with a significant increase in daily usage from 9% in 2023 to 12% in 2024.
- Diverse User Groups: Family groups have become the largest category of users, reflecting our efforts to increase family usage. Additionally, there has been a notable rise in dog walkers, from 1% in 2023 to 13% in 2024.
- Economic Impact: The economic benefits of the Trail are evident, with users spending more during their visits. The daily spend per person increased from £44.29 in 2023 to £54.04 in 2024.
- Health and Wellbeing: The Trail continues to play a crucial role in promoting physical activity and mental wellbeing. An impressive 86% of respondents stated that the Trail helps increase their level of physical activity.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the survey results are overwhelmingly positive, there are areas where we can improve:
- Accessibility: We need to encourage more responses from people using mobility scooters and wheelchairs to ensure the Trail is accessible to all.
- Mental Wellbeing: There has been a decrease in respondents using the Trail for mental wellbeing. We aim to raise the profile of the Trail as a resource for mental health.
- Diverse Audiences: We continue to promote the Trail to less represented audiences and are exploring ways to make the survey available in different languages.
Looking Ahead
The insights from this survey will guide future developments and enhancements to the Trail. We are committed to ensuring that the Trans Pennine Trail remains a vibrant and valuable resource for generations to come.
Thank you for your continued support and for taking the time to share your experiences with us. Together, we can ensure that the Trans Pennine Trail remains a welcoming and accessible space for all.
