Danny MacAskill and Chris Ball among 2024 Hall of Fame nominations

Today, the International Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, located in the Marin Museum of Bicycling in Marin County, California, announced its 2024 inductees.

This year is the 36th anniversary of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, and this class of inductees is no less important than the group inducted in 1988. The charter of the MBHOF recognizes those who have shaped the sport of mountain biking and who have had widespread influence that goes above and beyond their initial impact. They represent a spread of riders, racers, event organizers, and bike industry people that the Selection Committee decided had truly earned their place in the pantheon of mountain biking.

Class of ’24

For this year, 2024, the inductees are:

Sam Hill – this young Australian swept the junior downhill race scene when he appeared in the early 2000s, winning back-to-back Junior gold medals in 2002 and 2003. This started a career that would see him see a bronze in his first year as a senior, silver the next, and consecutive golds in 2006 and 2007. Even when it seemed he had ‘retired’ from racing, he returned to dominate the 2017 Enduro World Series overall title (while finishing 6th at the DH worlds on his enduro bike…)

Danny MacAskill – Is there a mountain biker alive who hasn’t heard of this agile Scotsman? Danny shot to overnight fame in 2009 when the amateur video of his formidable street trials riding set the internet alight. Since that moment, he has found unique ways to show off his skills as he turns the natural and urban world into his playground.

Jeff Steber – founder and designer of Intense Cycles has been inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame for his pioneering bike design work, particularly the M-1 downhill bike in the nineties, and the influential race-focussed designs that he continues to hand prototype in a relentless drive for speed.

Fred Glo, Enrico Guala, Chris Ball ‘The Enduro Brothers’ – While not perhaps as well-known names as the previous three, the trio of Fred, Enrico, and Chris between them helped pioneer, popularise and standardize the world of enduro racing, bringing it from its casual French beginnings into the international, televised sport that we know today.

2024 Induction

The 2024 induction ceremony will be held live next year in a joint celebration and presentation with the 2025 MBHOF inductee-elects. That presentation will take place at the Marin Museum of Bicycling, home of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.

Nominations and inductions

Every year, in October, the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame invites public submissions for future inductions. Submissions of interest are then researched by the Selection Committee over the next year (or several years). A final decision is made late in the summer and an induction, usually of four to six inductees happens in October.

The nominations can be from anyone and those nominated are encouraged to join in the process. The Selection Committee, an international group drawn from many corners of the mountain bike world, then carefully assesses each nominee to see if there is a strong case to induct them to the Hall of Fame. Inductees must not only have made a big impact on the world of the mountain bike, but that ‘ripple effect’ must have spread, and still be felt throughout the current and varied MTB scene that we all know and love.

On October 1st this year, public submissions will be accepted on the Nominations page until October 31st.
