Hagg Lake Work Party Wrap-Up

0 1

Written by Dan Werle, Hagg Lagg LST

On the morning of Saturday, July 21, ten NWTA volunteers met at Scoggins Valley Park in Gaston to tackle some of Oregon’s fastest-growing vegetation on the Henry Hagg Lake Trail.

Two groups, led by crew leaders Lisa Olivares and Paul Hobson, descended on a few of the most overgrown sections of the trail, with aspirations of brushing back dead tree branches, invasive weeds of various species, and, of course, seemingly- omnipresent blackberry bushes.

Soloist Todd Slaymaker, true to his name, rode much of the trail armed with a folding saw, dispatching low-hanging branches and snuffing out errant vines along the way. By the party’s end, the group had collectively put in nearly forty hours of work and were welcomed back to the Eagle Point gathering site with a variety of cold Hopworks beverages, cookies, chips, and well-deserved NWTA swag!
