The crash occurred on the very first turn of the race in the final run of three.

Fields was in second when the front wheel of his bike looked to catch the back one of the leader.

Fields was sent crashing to the ground as two other racers fell over him and were sent tumbling.

The ace, from Las Vegas, was fourth after his opening two heats but landed hard off a jump and slammed into the turn before worryingly laying on the track.

Medics quickly raced on to the scene to treat the stricken star.

He was then loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There was no immediate update on his condition.

Fields was a 2016 Olympic gold medalist and was a huge contender to win gold again in the Far East.

He had already qualified for the finals despite the terrifying smash.

The rider made his Olympic debut back at London 2012, where he finished seventh overall.
