PDC Historic Alternate Race Calendar - What Should We Be Watching?

0 12

Gustave Garrigou, vainqueur de Milan-San Remo 1911 (sut bicyclette Alcyon)

OK, so the schedule looks bleak. Early Milan-San Remo breakaway bleak. "Maybe Poulidor will win this year" bleak. That doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate and share in past cycling glories. Until we get a Campanaerts v. Dennis live-streamed hour attempt on Zwift, we need to take matters into our own hands.

It’s time to fire up the Wayback Machine, or the Recentlyback Machine, if that’s your preference. Tell us which iteration (by year) of these March* races we should watch, in lieu of mail ordering a fat-tire bike out of sheer boredom. Post your nominations below, throw in a YouTube link if you've got one, and we’ll try to come up with a consensus watchlist, maybe even some "live" threads if there’s interest.

  • 16 March – favorite Tirreno-Adriatico stage/year
  • 21 March – best Milano-San Remo not involving Kelly/Argentin (I think we've all seen that one enough)
  • 22 March – Trofeo Alfredo Binda (video may be limited, we’ll use our imaginations)
  • 26 March – any Catalunya Queen Stage that you can remember
  • 27 March – flahutest** E3 Prijs/Harelbeke (see this is historic, we don’t even need to say BinckBank)
  • 29 March – best Men’s and Women’s Gent-Wevelgem

Finally, I am told by reliable PdC editors that triple VDS points are available for calling winners in these races. Please. I’m begging you.

*All races in April will be held, I’m sure of it, and I will not be responsible for jinxing anything by including them on this list.

**Shut up, it is too a word.
