Door County 600k and Juneau Kettle Moraine 200k

0

These two rides will be held on July 7.  So far (cross your fingers) the weather looks okay.

Door County 600k

The route is not final until it is checked.  The preliminary look (using Google and the various county and state construction sites) looks fine, but there could very well still be changes due to unexpected road closure or other problems.  The preliminary RWGPS route has been sent to everyone registered - if you register now, you should receive the same information at confirmation time.

I will send out the cue sheet after the course is checked in the middle of this week (July 4-5).  There is one control change from last year - Renard's Cheese is no longer an info control but you are still encouraged to stop there as a food stop.   There will still be an info control at Salem Church - it will be a basic question/answer type info control.

The Start/Registration

I will already be in Fond du Lac and will post a sign on my room (which is immediately behind the check in counter).  When you arrive, I will inspect your bike and reflective gear.  Once you sign the waiver, you will receive your brevet card.

FYI: The route goes through Collins Marsh on the way back to Fond du Lac - there are a ton of mosquitos.  I recommend you bring bug repellent.

The start will be promptly at 6:00AM in front of the Comfort Inn.

Controls

This area is not used to brevets and because of this and some issues with consistency in the Sturgeon Bay BP, for this brevet, we will use receipts instead of signatures for the controls.  This wil hopefully be easier for everyone and avoid unpleasentries at controls where people are unfamiliar with them.  THERE ARE NO OPEN CONTROLS ON THIS ROUTE!  That means that you must go to the busines listed.  At the finish, go through your receipts and fill in your card from them - then include all the receipts in your envelope with the card.  I will check both the receipts and the cards to ensure they match.

The Overnight

Fond du Lac has no options for 24 hour food.  Because of this, we are providing a hot dinner to all 600k riders and a breakfast in the RBA room.

Dinner is:

  • Pasties (choice of beef, chicken or Thai Veg) - these are a form of single serving pie from a local Minneapolis company.  They are very tasty.
  • Cheesecake (calories, calories)
  • Drinks (soda).  If you want a beer, this is BYOB

Breakfast is:

  • Oatmeal Bar (the real kind, not the instant kind) - fruit, coconut, nuts, milk, yogurt to add to it
  • Coffee
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Juice

Bring your cards to the RBA room to get them signed at the overnight as well as get your food.

Finishing

I will likely have to leave before many of you finish.  At registration/inspection, you will be handed an addressed stamped envelope for your card.  At the finish, the hotel clerk at the Comfort Inn will sign your brevet card.  SIGN YOUR CARD!  Do not try and fill in your finish time.

Put your signed card in the envelope and mail it along with the receipts to me.  I highly recommend you also take a quick photo just for safety.

Juneau Kettle Moraine Scenic 200k

This is the same loop as the second day of the 600k.  It starts fairly flat down to Juneau and then gets hilly to the end.  There are controls at Juneau, Kewauskum, and Elkhart Lake.  Get receipts at the controls and fill in your card with them at the finish.  There will be a box to leave your card in.

I'm working on finalizing the route.  There have been some shakeups with the route committee as of late and I am not totally comfortable handing out GPS or cue sheets before RUSA gives at least some kind of acknowledgement.  That should happen shortly.

Of particular interest is the section from Kewauskum to Elkhart Lake.  It's very pretty and follows the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive (all 27 miles of it).  Most of it is freshly paved.

The ride start is at 7:00 AM.  No inspections necessary since it will  still be light at the cutoff at 8:30.   I highly encourage you bring some kind of lights and reflective gear just in case - one never knows.
