Front derailleur speeds

0 6
My old first-gen, 5-speed Dura Ace front derailleur snapped off during PBP last week, and now I need a replacement. I’d upgraded the rest of the drivetrain to 9-speed, and before the FD broke, I had some shifting problems in the front. But the FD was pretty beat up and a little bent, so I don’t know if the shifting problems were a result of 5-speed incompatibility with a 9speed drivetrain or other issues.

Do I need a 9-speed FD, or can I use a vintage part to better match my vintage bike (1976 AD Vent Noir)? It’s a compact 50-34 crankset, FYI. Recommendations appreciated.
