Round 5 (last) report
It took a while for the last match to be completed but at last the Castlehill Club Championship is over and Rishi Vijayakumar J10 is champion!
Congratulations to Rishi who becomes the youngest club champion ever at the age of 10! What an achievement! Declan Shafi held the record aged 14 when he won his first of 6 titles in 2014/15. What a performance by Master Rishi! Knowing Rishi I think his quest will be to put his name on every Castlehill trophy before he reaches 12 years of age!
But wait…there`s more!
This also means Rishi is a “DOUBLE” Club Champion in 2021-22 after he also won the first official Castlehill Online Club Championship! No one else can take that record from him! I have nothing else to say about Master Rishi!

Congratulations to Alastair Dawson and Keith Rose for finishing in runners-up spot on 4 points, but Keith also finished the highest player U1600 to take that trophy!
It was good to be playing OTB chess again and while there were problems, we still managed to complete the Club Championship. A big thank you to all the players who took part and help make this a fantastic competition. A thought for Leyton Hackney who would have played Rishi (3½ each) in the last round, but his plans changed when he moved back to New Zealand for the summer and missed the last round!
Hopefully we will have a full calendar of internal competitions in 2022-23 without any interruptions!
Once again congratulations to Rishi on an historic performance by him. The future if he keeps playing is very bright indeed!
