Congratulations to Team Chile!

Well what a match for many different reasons not least the amount of boards in play, 18! Chile still had more players, but 18 it was. Not only that Chile out graded Dundee City B on “ALL” 18 boards. Even had an FM on board one! I may not have personally covered myself in glory, but it was an honour to play in this match! Before we delve deeper, its congratulations big time to “Team Chile” for winning this match in fantastic style. This was not so much a “Chile” wind, more “Chile” peppers! It was a hot performance!

To have so many players willing to play was unbelievable. They must have had at least 20 if not more ready to play. Dundee City B knew this and tried their best to match them and got an unbelievable response by fielding 18 players, the most we have ever managed! It could have been better as a couple of players replied late saying yes, but the clock was counting down so no chance!

The score could have been a little closer but not by much. One of our players (Dundee City B) in his second match had a won game, two queens and 2 to 3 minutes left on his clock, but instead of playing Qe6#, he played the other queen and stalemate! We will save his blushes by not mentioning his name, let’s, just “Sub” him the next time! Having said that first timer, Euan Murray won both his games (well done!), but admitted he was losing both games only for his opponent to blunder badly both times! Just shows better to be a lucky player than a good one!

It would not have mattered if we played with just four, six, nine or even ten boards; we were out played in all scenarios. The score might have been closer say with four boards, but we would still have lost, that’s how dominant Team Chile were in all fazes of the match!

This result meant Dundee City B finished on 6 points and in 32 spot, half a point behind Dundee City A who finished in 24th place on 6½ points.

For now thank you and well done to Team Chile. Thank you to all Dundee City players during this campaign, including the new players who rallied to our call for this match at short notice! Big thumbs up to David Findlay for all the hard work he has put in to make it all come together for Dundee City A & B teams! Thank you to ChessHeros on Twitch TV for their commentary on all the matches. You did a great job which added another element to the matches!

Thank you to all the organiser’s, especially Peter Hornsby for all his hard work in making this one of the best online chess competitions out there! Also thank you to “CHESS.COM” for a fantastic platform to play on!
