CASTLEHILL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2020-21 Round 4 report
CASTLEHILL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2020-21
Round 4 report & round 5 draw
Well after four rounds we find ourselves with a usual favourite for the title in top spot, Declan Shafi, but this time joined by one of our new members this year, Kit McEvoy Gould, both on the full 4 points!
Round four saw the biggest shock so far with Kit McEvoy Gould beating one of the best players we have in Andre Babin! Another newbie, Cosmo Bobak (1200)est drew with Graham Mooney (1866)! It seems we have found ourselves a couple of good young players to add to our growing membership once the club can open again!
Declan put paid to giant killer, Martin Chalmers ambitions of his first ever Club Championship in just nine (11) moves! The highs and lows of chess!
The only other strange result in this round was also between two new members (we are doing well this season with new members!), Ana Belen Seijas Otero (1402) and Blair Marshall.
Blair is just learning the game, while Ana is an experienced Spanish female player (good to have more female players at our club). All went to form with Ana about to win the game when unexpectedly and much to everyone’s amusement apart from Ana’s, she was distracted by kids in the house she was looking after, played a pawn move and it was stalemate! I bet Blair could not believe his eyes, indeed he may never have realised until the computer flashed it up! Ana`s response was lost in translation! Oh Google translate!
Norrie Carroll was jumping for joy and over the moon all at the same time after beating Norman Waugh! It’s been a while coming, but better late than never!
The round 5 draw (last one) is now up on our website and match night is Mon 17th May 21, 7:30pm. As it`s the last round if anybody has problems the deadline date is flexible! Of course the match of the round to decide who will be this seasons Castlehill Club Champion 2020-21 will be between old hand (Can’t believe I am saying this?) Declan Shafi (2184) and “New” kid on the block, Kit McEvoy Gould!
It should be a cracking last round and good luck to all players!
