Carlsen and So lead their Carlsen Invitational Quarterfinals after day 1 - Day 4

0 6
Magnus Carlsen dominated his match against Levon Aronian right from the very start on the first day of the knockout phase. Carlsen in finishing top of the preliminaries got to choose the colour for the first game. Carlsen thinks it sets a tone and after his win there Aronian was forced to play perhaps a bit too enterprisingly in game two which he lost as well. Game 3 was also winning for Carlsen but he took the draw he needed. Wesley So also beat his opponent Alireza Firouzja 2.5-0.5 but Firouzja created winning chances for himself that unfortunately he couldn't take. Anish Giri has come back many times in these online tour events and today after losing the first game against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave he struck straight back - two further draws left things level. Things were more or less the same for Hikaru Nakamura and Ian Nepomniachtchi, Nakamura led, Nepomniachtchi struck back and then two draws.

The final day of the quarter finals starts at 4pm GMT tomorrow.
