TAFCA LEAGUE ONLINE – Match Report
Div 1 – Thurs 30th July 20; 7:30pm
St.Andrews Fun Team A 2, Castlehill Armadillo`s 2
What a match and a game of two half’s it seems! The shock result was Declan Shafi (2141) losing a TAFCA match which does not happen that often these days! Congratulations to Sam Herring (1938) on a fine win and on the way he played! It looked a good tight game with a few twists and turns. Declan was playing well and his 16th Ng5! Qf6
& 17th (Bxe4!) moves put him in a strong position, only for it to be undone on move 18 h4? Sam on the other hand took all the pressure Declan put on him and then applied his own at the end and deserved the win!
On board two, Graham Mooney (1866) just had one of those days when nothing went right and a mouse slip thrown in. To compound things he was playing a strong player in Daniel Chambers (1674) who took full advantage and got his just rewards!
On boards 3 & 4, Armadillo saviours Andre Babin (1865) and Robert Jackson (1573) both got fine wins, but it was tough going as the St.Andrews players (Wilf Wheatley (1574) & Alexandre King (1500e) fought all the way to the end.
Not quite the result the Armadillo`s wanted, but not a complete disaster either! Credit must go to the St.Andews Fun Team A who collectively played well and deserved something out of the match!
Div 1 – Thurs 30th July 20; 7:30pm
Castlehill Bandicoot`s 2, Perth Raiders 2
Another draw on the night and the Bandicoot’s first points of the season! It was always going to be hard against Perth Raiders with two very strong players on boards 1 & 2, brilliantly backed up by boards 3 & 4!
The top two matches were of a very high standard by all 4 players involved and in the end nobody could find a way through so ended in draws! Board 1: Gwenole Le Feuvre (1714) v Michael Dugdale (1537) Board 2: Andy Rowe (1536) v David Hall (1682).
On board 4 it was a bit of a disaster for Euan Murray (1500)e who is normally very consistent, but this time was just a little off form. Having said that, credit must be given to his opponent, Tom Wardlaw (1174) who played well above his grading on the night! Euan after that hiccup, went to play in the Castlehill Thurs night 5 minute comp and won it with 6 out of 6 wins! Euan the wrong way round mate!
The Bandicoot`s knight in shining armour was the ever steady and reliable, Paul Shafi (1520) who beat the Perth Raiders captain, Ian Washington (1423). It would have been a shock indeed had both “Shafi`s” lost! Well played Paul!
So on the night both Castlehill teams drew! Credit to both St.Andrews and Perth teams for their battling performances and well deserved points!
For all the results and tables go to the TAFCA website. Indeed why not checkout the games themselves in the TAFCA Online searchable database!
Next week it`s the turn of division two with the Castlehill Cobra`s in action against St.Andrews Bee Movie. Daniel Coleman`s Dragons have a free week!
