Lionel Messi's GOAT Tour Ends in Wild Riot: Video

Lionel Messi's "GOAT" tour pitstop in India ended in chaos after fans rushed the field and began rioting.

What happened?

According to multiple reports, the global superstar made an appearance at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday as part of a tour that also has him scheduled in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

Reports say fans paid upwards of 12,000 rupees (or $133) to attend the event, but things got off to a bad start.

For starters, BBC News is reporting that fans grew furious that their view of the 38-year-old Argentina and Inter Miami star was blocked by celebrities and a large group of officials.

Things only got worse from there.

Reports say fans became hostile after Messi was whisked away by security after a mere 20-minute appearance.

BBC News reported that, according to a spokesperson, Messi "fulfilled the time commitment that had been agreed in advance."

Fans Become Hostile

When Messi's appearance was cut short, fans rushed the field and began trashing the stadium. BBC News posted a video showing dozens of fans ripping seats, tossing chairs, destroying fences, and other property.

One fan commented, "They think the people are stupid ... we did not even get to see Messi's face."

Reports in India say that the event's chief organizer was arrested, but no other details were given, per the AFP.

The outlet also reports that authorities are trying to figure out how to issue refunds. As part of Messi's visit to Kolkata, a 70-foot statue of the soccer icon was also unveiled.
