I Tried Yasso’s Protein-Packed Frozen Greek Yogurt Spoonables—Here’s Why I’ll Be Swapping My Ice Cream for Them

0 24

I don’t usually get excited about high-protein frozen desserts, but Yasso’s new Spoonables had a few things going for them—simple ingredients, interesting flavors, and enough protein to make them more than a snack. I tried all five flavors to see how they stacked up and whether they were worth keeping in the freezer.

Since they’re made with Greek yogurt, I expected more tang, but it stays in the background, and the texture turns smooth once they thaw a bit. From there, it really came down to how each flavor tasted, and they all had their own thing going on.

What to Expect from Yasso's High-Protein Spoonables

Each flavor comes in between 370 and 410 calories per pint with 18 to 19 grams of protein, and they’re made without sugar alcohols. The ingredient lists are pretty straightforward, and the macros put them in that space where they still feel like dessert but have a little more substance than frozen yogurt usually does.

Mint Chocolate Chip

Mint chocolate chip used to be my go-to flavor as a kid. The mint here is clean and pretty subtle—not the more intense mint that really jumps out at you. It has plenty of chocolate flecks throughout, but the base itself is a bit less creamy than the others. It’s still refreshing, just not as bold as I expected.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

There's a good amount of sweetness here, with lots of small cookie dough bits mixed in. They’re tiny, but there are enough of them that you taste that cookie-dough flavor in most bites. The vanilla base is pretty neutral, which lets the mix-ins stand out. Overall, it’s an easy, familiar flavor that does exactly what you expect.

Coffee Chocolate Chip

This flavor hits with a strong coffee note right away, the kind that has a touch of bitterness but still tastes smooth. The sweetness is pretty light, which keeps it closer to a cold brew than a latte. The chocolate chips are small and crisp, and give the base a little texture without distracting from the coffee.

Fudge Brownie

This ended up being the one I liked most. The chocolate flavor just has more depth than the others, and the small brownie bits add enough texture to keep it interesting. Now and then, I’d hit a slightly richer bite from the fudge, and those were the ones that made me want another spoonful.

Cookies & Cream

It has that typical cookies-and-cream flavor right away, with a creamy base and lots of cookie bits blended in. There aren’t any big chunks, but the flavor is still there in every bite. Overall, it’s straightforward and easy to enjoy.

The Verdict

Overall, the Spoonables lineup worked better than I expected. Each flavor brought something a little different to the table, and a few were good enough that I kept going back for more. They’re lighter than ice cream but still satisfying, and I can see myself keeping a couple in the freezer for nights when I want something cold without going all in on a full pint.
